The Wedding: Details

While we were getting ready, Niki took some detail shots of my wedding day attire, amongst other things. And since details are my faveeeeeee…. here we go.

The shoes I never thought I’d be able to afford, gifted to me by my lovely bridesmaids.

I loved the intricate lace and beading on my dress–so happy she captured some of the detail here.

A shot of the hanger that Erick made for me. And, my wedding dress was a gift from my grandparents. My Grandpa passed away before he got to see me wear the dress, but knowing this was a gift from him and my Grammie made it all the more special to me. Not really a detail, but here’s the whole shot of the dress, hanging on my parents’ front porch that morning.

My veil was my mother’s–she wore it in 1980! It was still in perfect shape and hadn’t lost any of its brightness over the years (without preservation–shh!), so she removed the huge headpiece and the thick lace edging and made it all my own with gorgeous Swarovski crystals for the beading. It took her hours to do–she claims it was actually relaxing–and it made a world of difference. I was proud to wear this as my something old.

I’m happy to say that everything I wore the day of the wedding had special significance to me–I didn’t really plan it all that way, but it just happened. Oh, and since I mentioned my somethings.

  • Something Old: My mom’s veil
  • Something New: The crystal belt I bought on Etsy (and my dress and shoes, of course)
  • Something Borrowed: Ashley’s garter–Erick caught it at their wedding just a few weeks before ours, and it was toss garter as well.
  • Something Blue: My “keepsake” garter. My mom handmade this as well and sewed blue bows on it. Pictures of that to follow in…
